About PhdFit
A workspace for PhD applicants who want to pick an advisor on signal, not prestige.
Why PhdFit exists
Applying to a PhD is a research project that most applicants do alone, under time pressure, with tools that weren't built for it. The result is predictable: 40 faculty pages opened in tabs, a shortlist assembled from rankings and hearsay, cold emails that treat the recipient as a mailbox. PhdFit is the tool we wish we had — six specialist agents that read your résumé, rank the faculty who actually fit, and help you write outreach a professor wants to reply to.
What we believe
Fit is specific
Most PhD applicants get told to "find an advisor who fits" without anyone describing what that actually means. PhdFit decomposes fit into five auditable axes so you can see where a match is strong and where it's soft.
The applicant is the expert on themselves
An LLM does not know your trajectory better than you do. PhdFit surfaces candidates and writes reasoning, but you drive the ranking — the presets, the shortlist, the outreach voice.
Cold emails deserve a paper in them
Generic outreach wastes the recipient's attention and your reputation. Every draft PhdFit produces is grounded in a specific paper from the target professor — because that's the only version of outreach faculty actually respond to.
Rankings are opinions, not truth
We do not reproduce US News rankings. Faculty get ranked against your background, in your field, with your preferences. That ranking is an opinion we can defend, not an oracle you should trust.
Who PhdFit is for
Applicants to PhD programs where advisor fit matters more than institution brand — computer science, engineering, economics, quantitative social science, most of the natural sciences. If you already know exactly which lab you want, PhdFit is overkill. If you're staring at a list of 40 names and don't know which to open first, this is the product.
Build your shortlist
The first ranked set lands in under a minute. Every match comes with the reasoning you can defend in an interview.
