Yuanyuan (Rose) Li is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition & Food Science at the University of Maryland. Her research focuses on studying how bioactive nutrients or compounds in functional foods prevent chronic human diseases, including cancer and metabolic disorders, through regulation of epigenetic mechanisms and the gut microbiome. She is particularly interested in how nutrition and diet influence pregnant women’s health and reduce the risk of certain diseases in their offspring. Dr. Li aims to apply her research in human studies to improve community health and benefit public welfare. Her work emphasizes early-life dietary chemoprevention on breast cancer and metabolic disorders via gut microbiome and microbial metabolome, as well as the epigenetic regulation of bioactive nutrients in cancer prevention and therapy. She also investigates nutrition interventions related to aging epigenetics and conducts translational studies and clinical trials involving nutrition interventions in humans. Dr. Li holds a medical degree from Shanxi Medical College, a master's degree from Dalian Medical College, and a Ph.D. from Peking Union Medical College, all in China. Her research has been funded by several agencies, including USDA NIFA and NIH, and she has contributed to numerous publications in her field.
