About

Ulrich Heintz is a Professor of Physics at Brown University, with a research focus on the fundamental building blocks of matter and their interactions as described by the standard model of elementary particle physics. His work aims to test the validity of this model at very high energies to better understand the evolution of the universe from the Big Bang to its current state. Heintz has been involved in significant experimental collaborations, including the CUSB, D0, and currently the CMS Collaboration at CERN, where he conducts research on particle properties such as the W boson and top quark masses, as well as searches for new particles like fourth-generation quarks, vector-like quarks, KK resonances, and massive gauge bosons. Heintz's contributions extend to the development and construction of advanced detector components, including the Level 2 Silicon Track Trigger for the D0 experiment and the frontend electronics for the CMS experiment's phase 1 upgrade. His research interests also include the development of radiation-hard silicon sensors and silicon modules for high-luminosity upgrades. He obtained his Ph.D. from Stony Brook University in 1991, following his undergraduate studies at the University of Tuebingen in Germany. His academic career includes postdoctoral work at Columbia University and a Wilson Fellowship at Fermilab before joining Boston University in 1999, and subsequently moving to Brown University in 2009 as a full professor. Heintz has received numerous honors, including the Fellow of the American Physical Society and the Sloan Research Fellowship, and has held visiting positions at institutions such as the Universität Freiburg and the University of Strasbourg.
