About

Petros Koumoutsakos is the Herbert S. Winokur, Jr. Professor of Computing in Science and Engineering at Harvard University’s John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. His primary teaching areas include applied mathematics, computational science and engineering, and related fields. His research encompasses a broad range of areas such as applied mathematics, active matter, control theory and stochastic systems, data science, machine learning, modeling physical and biological phenomena, artificial intelligence, fluid mechanics, and science and engineering for ClimateTech, among others. Koumoutsakos has contributed significantly to high performance computing, leading studies to replicate supercomputer resources in public cloud environments to advance heart disease research. His work combines artificial intelligence and computational science to develop accurate and efficient simulations of complex systems, aiming to improve predictions and understanding across various scientific disciplines. His recognition includes awards such as the PRACE HPC Excellence Award for his contributions to high performance computing.
