Maureen A. Howard is a Professor of Law at the University of Washington School of Law, with research and teaching interests centered in evidence, criminal procedure, prosecutorial ethics, the law of juries, and trial advocacy. She has served as director of the law school's Trial Advocacy Program and the National Institute of Trial Advocacy’s Northwest Regional Trial Skills program. Professor Howard has over 25 years of experience teaching trial advocacy, including at Harvard Law School, Emory Law School, and Loyola University law school, as well as conducting training at various national and international trial advocacy programs. Her professional background includes practicing as a civil litigator in commercial and employment law, and later as a criminal prosecutor in King County, where she tried felony cases. She has also served as a judge pro tempore, presiding over civil and criminal trials. Additionally, she has worked internationally with trial lawyers, providing consulting and training in locations such as Kenya and Ireland. Professor Howard co-authors a treatise on Washington evidence law, serves on the Washington Pattern Jury Instruction Committee, and writes and speaks nationally on evidence and trial advocacy. She is admitted to practice in Washington, California, and before the Supreme Court of the United States.
