About
L. Monika Moskal is an adjunct professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Washington. She holds a Ph.D. in Remote Sensing and GIS from the University of Kansas, an M.A. in Remote Sensing from the University of Calgary, and a B.A. in Environmental Sciences from the University of Waterloo. Her research focuses on using remote sensing and GIS to analyze large-scale landscape change, including seasonal and long-term wetland and forest dynamics, and their connections to climate and socio-economic data. As the Director of the Precision Forestry Cooperative, she is interested in understanding how urban, managed, and natural forests are structured, how they change due to disturbances such as fire, and how these changes can be detected. Her work aims to identify indicators that can guide sustainable forestry management and policy. She has conducted research throughout the western U.S. and Canada, with her work receiving substantial funding from the NSF and NASA.
