About
Joseph Michael Pucci is a Professor of Classics and Chair of Classics at Brown University, with additional affiliation in the Program in Medieval Studies. His teaching and research focus on classical, later, and medieval Latin language and literature, with particular interests in late antiquity, late Latin, medieval Latin, and comparative literary history. Pucci has extensively studied literary allusion, poetic genres, and the reception of Latin poetry in late antiquity, contributing to the understanding of how pagan literature was read and interpreted by early Christian authors. He has published over 70 articles, book chapters, and reviews, and authored or edited eight books, including recent works such as 'The Poetry of Alcuin of York' (2023), 'Prudentius: Peristephanon' (2019), and 'Ausonius: The Moselle, the Epigrams and Other Poems' (2017). His scholarship also explores biography as a literary form, the Western tradition, and the relationship between literature and the American presidency. Pucci's work is recognized through awards for teaching and advising, and he has been involved in conferences and funded research supporting late Latin and medieval Latin studies.
