Emily Hartwell, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and an Associate Member of the Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics Research. She is also a psychologist at the Crescenz Veterans Affairs Medical Center affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania. Her educational background includes a BA in Political Science from North Carolina State University, an MA in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from UCLA. Her research focuses on substance use disorders, with a particular emphasis on alcohol use disorder. She has contributed to understanding the genetic and pharmacogenetic factors influencing substance use and treatment responses. Her work includes systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and phenome-wide association analyses related to substance use, genetics, and treatment outcomes.
