David Barrie Richardson, PhD, is a Professor of Environmental and Occupational Health at the University of California, Irvine, and serves as Associate Dean for Research at the Joe C. Wen School of Population & Public Health. He earned his Ph.D. and M.S.P.H. in epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds a B.A. in Political Science from Duke University. Dr. Richardson's research primarily focuses on the health effects of occupational and environmental exposures, with a particular emphasis on carcinogens. His work includes studies of cancer among nuclear workers at various U.S. Department of Energy facilities and investigations of cancer among the survivors of the atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He has contributed significantly to understanding the risks associated with low-dose ionizing radiation and occupational exposures in nuclear power and other settings.
