About

Bethany A. Buck is an Associate Professor of Chemistry and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Utah. Her research primarily focuses on utilizing a multidisciplinary approach that incorporates structural biology, biophysics, biochemistry, molecular biology, and cellular biology to explore structure-function relationships in protein/protein and protein/nucleic acid interactions. She is particularly interested in investigating methyl-CpG DNA binding proteins, which recognize methylated DNA sequences and play a key role in gene transcription regulation through chromatin remodeling and gene silencing. Her work aims to understand the mechanisms by which these proteins recognize their DNA targets and regulate transcription, especially in the context of cancer epigenetics. Her research includes structural characterization of protein-DNA interactions, evaluation of protein interaction partners, and elucidation of the molecular mechanisms underlying DNA methylation recognition and chromatin remodeling, with the goal of advancing therapeutic strategies targeting these regulatory networks.

-DGD constructs yielded spectral signatures that suggest the formation of G4 motifs and demonstrated a folding dependency on the nature and location of DNA damage. Importantly, the PQS folding half-lives measured are relevant to replication, transcription, and DNA repair time frames.
