About

Xiaoqian Hu is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Arizona's James E. Rogers College of Law. Her teaching focuses on Property, Torts, and seminars on property and social change. Her research examines how property law influences racial and class inequality in the United States and explores potential legal reforms to promote structural equity. Additionally, her work on China investigates how property law interacts with the country's socioeconomic transformation, including how state actions and discourses impact class dynamics and government legitimacy. Professor Hu holds an S.J.D. from Harvard Law School, where she was awarded the Yong K. Kim ’95 Memorial Prize for her work on property struggles in China. She also earned a Ph.D. in comparative law and law and economics from the University of Turin, along with a master's degree in civil jurisprudence and an LL.B. from East China University of Political Science and Law. Her scholarly contributions include numerous publications on property law, racial justice, and legal transplants, reflecting her expertise in comparative law and her focus on social justice issues.
