Xia Zhu-Barker is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Soil and Environmental Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, within the College of Agricultural & Life Sciences. Her research focuses on soil biogeochemistry, land management, and environmental sustainability. Her work encompasses nitrogen and carbon biogeochemical cycles, greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions, nitrate leaching and runoff, innovative manure and nutrient utilization, composting, climate change mitigation and adaptation, ecosystem services, and carbon markets. She employs novel isotopic techniques and process-based modeling to explore soil-plant-microbe interactions and mechanistic processes. Zhu-Barker leads the Zhu-Barker Soil Biogeochemistry Laboratory and actively seeks graduate students and postdoctoral researchers interested in fundamental and applied research related to these areas.
