Timothy J. Strathmann is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines. His research group applies modern chemical research tools and techniques to develop more sustainable technologies for environmental and energy applications. His current projects include developing innovative technologies to remediate water, soil, and other environmental matrices contaminated by persistent and toxic fluorochemicals such as PFASs, assessing the effectiveness and sustainability of multi-stage treatment trains for PFAS, and valorizing waste streams through integrated biochemical-hydrothermal-catalytic conversion processes to produce liquid fuels, valuable industrial chemicals, and fertilizer. Dr. Strathmann holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University, an MS and BS in Civil Engineering from Purdue University. His work has contributed to advancements in treatment methods for PFAS contamination, including hydrothermal alkaline treatment and nanofiltration, and he has been recognized with awards such as the NSF CAREER Award and the AEESP Distinguished Service Awards.
