Dr. Stephen G. Weber is a Professor of Medicine in the Section of Infectious Diseases and Global Health at the University of Chicago. He is also the Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for the University of Chicago Medicine Health System, where he helps oversee programs related to physician quality and practice, population health, care coordination, informatics, simulation, and innovation. Recently, he assumed co-executive leadership of the health system's digital health programming. Dr. Weber continues to see patients in both inpatient and ambulatory settings. He received his MD from the New York University School of Medicine, completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago—including serving as Chief Medical Resident—and completed a subspecialty fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He also earned a Master's Degree in Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. His research initially focused on the prevention and management of infections caused by multi-drug resistant organisms among hospitalized patients. He has also examined public policy and regulation related to infection control, serving for a decade as the Chair of Public Policy and Government Affairs for the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America.
