Dr. Oscar Riera-Lizarazu is a Professor and Basye Endowed Chair in Rose Genetics in the Department of Horticultural Sciences at Texas A&M University. He works on polyploid genetic analysis, understanding the genetic basis of traits in landscape roses, and the use of genomics-based methods for germplasm improvement. With more than 25 years of national and international research experience in plant genetics, cytogenetics, and breeding, Dr. Riera-Lizarazu has held senior-level positions at Dow AgroSciences and Corteva Agriscience, director-level positions at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT, CGIAR) in India, and has been a tenured faculty member in the Department of Crop and Soil Science at Oregon State University. He has also served as a research scientist at the International Wheat and Maize Improvement Center (CIMMYT, CGIAR) in Mexico and at the Bolivian Institute of Agricultural Technology (IBTA) in Bolivia. Dr. Riera-Lizarazu earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Plant Science from Utah State University and a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics from the University of Minnesota.
