Naomi R. Cahn is the Justice Anthony M. Kennedy Distinguished Professor of Law and the Armistead M. Dobie Professor of Law at the University of Virginia School of Law, where she is also the co-director of the Family Law Center. She joined UVA Law in 2020 after teaching at George Washington Law School, where she served twice as associate dean. Her expertise encompasses family law, trusts and estates, feminist jurisprudence, reproductive technology, and aging and the law. Cahn has authored numerous articles exploring the intersections among family law, trusts and estates, and feminist theory, as well as essays on gender and international law. She has co-authored casebooks in family law and trusts and estates, and authored or edited several books addressing issues such as family polarization, elder care, reproductive justice, menopause, and family inequality. Her work has been featured in major media outlets including The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and The New Yorker, and she is a senior contributor to the Forbes Leadership Channel, where she writes on gender equity. Cahn has received recognition such as the Harry Krause Lifetime Achievement in Family Law Award and has been actively involved with the American Law Institute, the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, and the American Bar Foundation. Her research and practice focus on legal issues affecting families, gender, and aging, contributing significantly to academic scholarship and public discourse in these areas.
