Miguel Quintana-Navarrete is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society at the University of California, Irvine. With a background in law, criminology, and sociology, he adopts an interdisciplinary approach to studying extreme forms of violence and the criminal justice system, with a particular focus on Latin America and the Global South. His research explores issues such as gun violence in Los Angeles, forced disappearances, homicides, and intimate partner violence in Mexico, as well as inequalities within the criminal justice systems of Chile, Argentina, and Brazil. Earlier in his career, he served as a Law Clerk at the Supreme Court of Justice of the state of Sonora, Mexico. His academic background also includes a Master’s degree in Sociology from Harvard University, an M.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from King's College London, and a B.A. in Law (J.D. equivalent) from Universidad de Sonora in Mexico.
