Li-Jen Chang, PhD, MVM, BVM, CVA, DACVAA, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, Virginia Tech. His research interests include local and regional anesthesia, anesthesia and analgesia in wildlife and zoo animals, and the application of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) theory for sedation or pain management in veterinary medicine. Chang earned his PhD from Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine in 2020, his MS from Purdue University in 2020, his Master of Veterinary Medicine from National Chung Hsing University in 2005, and his BVM (equivalent to DVM) from the same university in 2003. His professional experience includes roles as a veterinarian at Taipei Zoo, a quarantine officer in Taiwan, and academic positions at Oklahoma State University and Virginia Tech. He is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia since 2023 and is a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist since 2013.
