Clinical Nutrition · 2025-04-07 · 43 citations
articleOpen accessBACKGROUND: The Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) introduced an approach for malnutrition diagnosis in 2019 comprised of screening followed by assessment of three phenotypic criteria: weight loss, low BMI, and low muscle mass, and two etiologic criteria: reduced food intake/assimilation, and inflammation/disease burden. articleOpen accessBACKGROUND & AIMS: Both during and after hospitalization, nutritional care with daily intake of oral nutritional supplements (ONS) improves health outcomes and decreases risk of mortality in malnourished older adults. In a post-hoc analysis of data from hospitalized older adults with malnutrition risk, we sought to determine whether consuming a specialized ONS (S-ONS) containing high protein and beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB) can also improve Quality of Life (QoL). METHODS: We analyzed d…

articleOpen access
Summary
Lipids are integral to parenteral nutrition (PN) in all settings where PN is required, serving as a source of energy and essential fatty acids. In addition, lipids modulate a variety of biological functions, including inflammatory and immune responses. Moreover, fish oil (FO), which contains omega-3 fatty acids, has become an important component of modern lipid emulsions. The Lipids in PN Summit involved a panel of international experts with extensive clinical experience in PN u…
