About

Keith Evan Green is the Jean and Douglas McLean Professor of Human Centered Design and a professor in the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell University. He is also a Graduate Field member in the PhD Programs of Information Science and Robotics. Green founded the field of architectural robotics, which involves designing physical environments that act, think, and grow with their inhabitants. His Architectural Robotics Lab (ARL) designs and understands rooms and furnishings as robots that enable, support, and augment their occupants, building reconfigurable 'robot-rooms' that partner with people in everyday life. Green's work recognizes the built environment—from furniture and rooms to buildings and cities—as an inhabited form of intelligence, aiming to develop new understandings of cohabitation through careful design and making. His book, 'Architectural Robotics: Ecosystems of Bits, Bytes and Biology,' established the theoretical foundation for this field. Green's research spans interdisciplinary areas including Design, Robotics, Human-Computer Interaction, and Psychology, with a focus on human-centered design methods and interaction design. He has trained a generation of PhD students and has contributed extensively to academic venues such as ACM, IEEE, and ACM interactions.
