Dr. Heather Chandler received her PhD in Veterinary Biosciences from The Ohio State University, where she evaluated epithelial-mesenchymal transition in the cornea and lens. She continued her training in the College of Veterinary Medicine as a post-doctoral researcher prior to co-managing core facilities in Veterinary Clinical Sciences. Since 2007, she has been a faculty member in the College of Optometry. Her primary research focus is on the mechanisms by which re-epithelialization and fibrosis occur within cataracts, secondary cataracts, and the cornea. Her current research includes evaluating specific protein pathways to inhibit the vascular and fibrotic response in the cornea following injury, and reducing secondary cataract formation through surgical or pharmacologic intervention. Her overall goal is to translate bench-top research findings into clinical applications.
