About

Geoffrey Challen is a teaching faculty member passionate about both teaching and building. He focuses on teaching students to build using code and artificial intelligence, and he creates tools and environments that facilitate scalable interactive learning. His goal is to teach computer science to as many people as possible by developing innovative educational materials, such as those available at learncs.online. Geoffrey is actively involved in designing new courses, including one aimed at non-technical students to help them understand and use AI, and he is rethinking programming education in the context of AI advancements. Additionally, he leads the design of Applied Computing, a proposed undergraduate degree at Illinois that emphasizes studio-based design, domain integration, and AI-assisted building. Geoffrey also shares his insights through essays on teaching, technology, and their intersection, aiming to make his writing accessible to both educators and builders.
