Franco Laghi is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at The University of Chicago. His research focuses on respiratory support, swallowing physiology, airway protection, and respiratory-swallow patterns in adults. His work includes systematic reviews and studies on noninvasive respiratory support, physiologic principles of intubation in hypoxemic patients, and the role of diaphragm ultrasound imaging in mechanical ventilation discontinuation. Dr. Laghi has also contributed to understanding sleep EEG patterns in weaning from mechanical ventilation, respiratory testing in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and COPD, and the management of insomnia in COPD patients. His research extends to physical rehabilitation in the ICU, outcomes of mechanically ventilated COVID-19 patients, and case reports on complex pulmonary conditions.
