Elena Coda is a Professor of Italian Literature at Purdue University and serves as the Interim Head of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies (SIS). A native of Italy, she earned her Ph.D. in Italian Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1998. She also holds positions as Associate Head of the School of Languages and Cultures and is an affiliate faculty member in the Philosophy and Literature program and the Comparative Literature program. Her teaching encompasses undergraduate courses in Italian literature and culture, while at the graduate level, she offers courses with an interdisciplinary comparative focus. Her research interests include Triestine literature, modernism, modern and postmodern landscapes in literature, European identities, and essayistic narrative. She has published essays in peer-reviewed collections and journals such as Quaderni d'Italianistica, MLN, The European Legacy, Nuova Prosa, Journal of European Studies, and Lettere Italiane. Coda is the author of the book 'Scipio Slataper' (2007), a comprehensive study on an important Triestine writer and intellectual active at the turn of the twentieth century. She has also edited several books and anthologies, including 'The Promised Land,' 'Balleriniana,' and 'Revisioning Terrorism: A Humanistic Perspective.' Her translation of Scipio Slataper's writings, titled 'My Karst and My City and Other Writings by Scipio Slataper,' received the 2022 John Florio Prize for best translation awarded by the UK Society of Authors.
