Dr. Edgar Oviedo earned his DVM from University of Tolima in Colombia, his master’s degree from the State University of Maringá, Brazil, his Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas, and an MBA from North Carolina State University. He is a member of the American College of Poultry Veterinarians. His expertise includes poultry nutrition, feeding, health and management, as well as the effects of broiler breeder management and nutrition on broiler performance, hatchery and incubation management, and the evaluation of feed additives and nutritional factors that affect enteric health and meat quality. Dr. Oviedo manages a program in Data Analytics applications for the Poultry Industry. His research areas focus on avian bone development and leg disorders, gut microbiota dynamics, nitrogen and amino acid utilization, and the development of computerized growth models to optimize management practices and feeding programs. He also works on estimating dietary electrolyte balance and mineral requirements for optimal performance. As an extension specialist, he conducts various poultry management and nutrition workshops, including courses on broiler production, hatchery management, and poultry health, and actively contributes to educational programs aimed at improving poultry industry practices.
