About
Chalvar Monteiro is a Visiting Assistant Arts Professor at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. He began his formal training at Sharron Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts and studied at The Ailey School before earning his BFA in Dance from SUNY Purchase. Mr. Monteiro has worked with numerous dance companies including Sidra Bell Dance New York, Elisa Monte Dance, Keigwin+Company, BODYTRAFFIC, GALLIM, A.I.M by Kyle Abraham, and Ailey II. He is currently a performing artist with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. In 2019, he was selected to participate in Merce Cunningham Trust’s Night of 100 Solos: A Centennial Event. His choreography has been showcased at various festivals and institutions such as the Fire Island Dance Festival, Ailey’s 2021 Virtual Spirit Gala, and Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City. Mr. Monteiro has also been featured in Vogue Beauty, Document Journal for Moncler, and in fashion campaigns for Uniqlo and Lululemon.
