William I. Ausich is an Academy Professor at the School of Earth Sciences at The Ohio State University. He earned his Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1978. His research focuses on three main areas: the evolutionary dynamics of Paleozoic crinoid faunas through major episodes of climate and biosphere change, the phylogeny and classification of Paleozoic crinoids, and paleocommunity dynamics through the Phanerozoic. Graduate and undergraduate students work in these and related areas of research under his guidance. Funding for his research is largely provided by the National Science Foundation. William Ausich has received several awards and honors, publishes regularly in leading peer-reviewed journals, and has authored five books and monographs.
