About

Catherine Davis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences at NC State University. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of California Davis, obtained in 2016, a Master of Science from the University of Bristol in 2012, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008. Her research interests are at the intersection of modern and paleo-oceanography, focusing on chemical oceanography, micropaleontology, and paleoclimatology. She combines lab-based, field-based, and sedimentary approaches to understand the long-term effects of global climate on oceanographic environments. Her current research emphasizes how oxygen and carbon content changes in open ocean environments respond to rapid climate change. Additionally, she investigates how marine microfossils, such as foraminifera, record their chemical microenvironment and how these microfossils can be used as paleoceanographic proxies to extend oceanographic records into the past.
