Mingyi Xie is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Florida College of Medicine. His research focuses on understanding how non-coding RNAs and RNA-binding proteins contribute to gene regulation in health and disease. His current interests include investigating how mis-regulation of microRNA levels and modifications of small non-coding RNAs contribute to various cancers and neurodegenerative diseases. Specifically, he studies a microRNA degradation mechanism called target RNA directed microRNA degradation in the context of colorectal cancer and T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Additionally, he has discovered an RNA modification called N6-methyladenosine in 7SK RNA, and his work explores how erasing this modification can inhibit lung cancer cell growth, examining its regulation mechanism and therapeutic potential in lung cancer and Alzheimer's disease.
