About
Bruce L. Golden is the France-Merrick Chair in Management Science at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland. He received his undergraduate degree in mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania and his masters and doctoral degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined the faculty of the University of Maryland Business School in 1976 and served as a Department Chairman from 1980 to 1996. His research interests include heuristic search, combinatorial optimization, networks, and applied operations research. Bruce Golden has received numerous awards, including the Thomas L. Saaty Prize, the University of Maryland Distinguished Scholar-Teacher Award, the INFORMS Award for the Teaching of OR/MS Practice, and the INFORMS Computing Society Prize. He was named an INFORMS Fellow in 2004. He has served as Editor-in-Chief of NETWORKS and the INFORMS Journal on Computing, and has been involved in consulting for various organizations and serving on the Board of Directors of several high-tech companies. He founded a management consulting company focused on business logistics and co-founded a company specializing in vehicle routing software, which is used by FedEx and the U.S. Postal Service. He was selected as the second VeRoLog Fellow in 2017 and received the George E. Kimball Medal in 2018 and the Robert Herman Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019, recognizing his contributions to operations research and logistics.

Voice Interface Technology Adoption by Patients With Heart Failure: Pilot Comparison Study
JMIR mhealth and uhealth · 2021 · 45 citations
BACKGROUND: Heart failure (HF) is associated with high mortality rates and high costs, and self-care is crucial in the management of the condition. Telehealth can promote patients' self-care while providing frequent feedback to their health care providers about the patient's compliance and symptoms. A number of technologies have been considered in the literature to facilitate telehealth in patients with HF. An important factor in the adoption of these technologies is their ease of use. Conversat…

Senior authorCorrespondingAbstract In recent years, the usage of drones in last‐mile logistics has stirred great interest in the operations research community. Many papers have considered schemes of hybrid truck‐and‐drone delivery. In this paper, we focus on the Multivisit Drone Routing Problem with Edge Launches (MVDRP‐EL) which assumes: a heterogenous set of packages, a drone capable of carrying multiple packages at a time and that can be launched and retrieved along an edge, a flexible launch/retrieval site set, and a…

Senior authorCorrespondingThis paper addresses the close-enough traveling salesman problem, a variant of the Euclidean traveling salesman problem, in which the traveler visits a node if it passes through the neighborhood set of that node. We apply an effective strategy to discretize the neighborhoods of the nodes and the carousel greedy algorithm to appropriately select the neighborhoods that, step by step, are added to the partial solution until a feasible solution is generated. Our heuristic, based on these ingredients…
