Beatriz Castro, Ph.D., leads the LearnerX Lab at Purdue University, focusing on co-creating learning experiences in STEM education. Her approach emphasizes collaboration with students, designing learning tools not just for them but with them, to create transformative and effective educational experiences. The LearnerX Lab originated in Spring 2024 during office hours when students expressed a desire to actively build learning tools, leading to the establishment of a collaborative space where Dr. Castro works alongside students to design impactful resources for Human Anatomy & Physiology courses (BIOL 20300–20400). Beyond a single course, Dr. Castro and her lab partner with instructors to adopt, adapt, and co-create educational tools that address the specific needs of diverse classrooms. At its core, her work aims to ignite curiosity, foster a love of science, and empower students to become active contributors to their own learning and that of others.
