Aparajita Sagar is an Associate Professor in the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University, with affiliations in the Department of English, Critical Disability Studies, Comparative Literature, Asian American Studies, Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Asian Studies. Her research focuses on postcolonial literature and theory, feminist studies, 20th-century literature, and Asian American, South Asian, and Caribbean literature. She explores themes related to urban space, domesticity, and cultural commodities in Africa and South Asia, as well as postcolonial and feminist-cultural studies, theory, literature, and film. Her scholarly interests include discourses of gifts and sacrifice in the imperial encounter, memory and speed culture, and taste and distinction within aestheticism and consumerism in a transnational context. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, earned in 1991. Her work addresses issues related to third world cities and citizenship, and she investigates cultural and social dynamics through various theoretical lenses.
