Alexander Halavais is an Associate Professor of Data & Society at Arizona State University. His research focuses on how automation and datafication change the nature of learning and enable new forms of collaboration and self-government. He directs the MA in Social Technologies / Data & Society program. Halavais has authored the second edition of his book Search Engine Society, published by Polity in 2017, and has contributed more than fifty articles and book chapters on the relationship of emerging technologies to social change. He is currently working on a book tentatively titled Automating Revolution.
