Eric M. Anderman is a Professor of Educational Psychology and Vice Provost for Regional Campuses at The Ohio State University. He received his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Michigan in 1994, his Master's degree from Harvard University in 1992, and his Bachelor of Science degree from Tufts University in 1985. His research over the past 25 years has focused on academic motivation, adolescent and at-risk youth, school-based interventions aimed at preventing engagement in risky behaviors, and various aspects of cognitive and educational psychology. He is a Fellow of both the American Psychological Association and the American Educational Research Association, and serves as the editor of the journal Theory into Practice. He has co-edited significant publications including the Handbook of Educational Psychology and the Visible Learning Guide to Student Achievement, and is the co-author of three textbooks along with over 180 peer-reviewed articles and invited chapters. His research has been featured in numerous media outlets such as CBS News, NBC News, CNN, NPR, The Huffington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and others. His work has been funded by agencies including the Institute of Education Sciences, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the National Institutes of Health. His research interests encompass adolescent and at-risk youth, school-based interventions, cognitive development, educational achievement, motivation, instructional strategies, educational statistics, health, teacher education, and policies related to teacher training. He has received honors such as the American Psychological Association Early Career Achievement Award and has served as President of the American Psychological Association, Division 15. His extensive contributions to the field reflect his dedication to understanding and improving educational processes and student motivation.

Addressing violence against teachers: A social‐ecological analysis of teachers' perspectives

Abstract Much research has been dedicated to supporting school communities in combating the problem of school violence. However, violence directed toward teachers is under‐investigated, and knowledge of how to support teachers is limited. This qualitative study used conventional content analysis to assess teachers' recommendations for preventing and improving the response to teacher‐directed violence. The sample included 245 prekindergarten through 12th grade teachers, all of whom experienced school violence and participated in a larger national survey study on violence against teachers. Using a social‐ecological framework and conventional content analysis, teacher recommendations for addressing teacher victimization were identified and organized at the individual, school, community, and society levels. Themes around conflict resolution strategies; improving policies, resources, and relationships with administrators; increasing parental involvement; and changing culture and laws were highlighted. Implications for research, practice, and policy are discussed.
