About
Yue Qi is the Joan Wernig Sorensen Professor of Engineering at Brown University and serves as the Deputy Director of the Initiative for Sustainable Energy (ISE). His research interests include computational materials science, multi-scale modeling, defects and transport, complex interfaces, and electrochemical-mechanical coupling in battery and fuel cell materials. He has received recognition for his distinguished research accomplishments, including being elected as a 2026 Materials Research Society Fellow and receiving the Ross Coffin Purdy Award from the American Ceramic Society. His work has contributed to the development of new design specifications for sodium-ion batteries, which are emerging as a less expensive and more environmentally friendly alternative to lithium-based batteries. Additionally, he is among the top two percent of scientists worldwide in engineering and has been awarded a $1.3 million Department of Energy grant in collaboration with colleagues.
