Teddy Chen is a lecturer in the Technology Management Program at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he teaches business strategy within the College of Engineering’s undergraduate certificate program. With over 30 years of experience in high-tech industries, he has held leadership roles in product management, marketing, strategic planning, and product development. His career began as a rocket engineer developing control algorithms for the Delta rocket, a predecessor to SpaceX. After earning an MBA from Harvard University, he joined Hewlett-Packard, leading a product management team that launched the HP 9000 engineering workstation, generating over $1 billion in revenue. Throughout his career, Teddy has served as VP at Storage Dimensions, where he helped the company pivot to the Windows NT market, leading to significant revenue growth and a public offering. He also served as EVP of product development and marketing at Prisa Networks, facilitating its transition from hardware to software and securing funding from Intel Capital. Following Prisa’s acquisition by EMC, he held roles as CTO and VP of product management for multiple EMC divisions. He later became Senior VP and General Manager of a division at Adaptec, a NASDAQ-listed data storage company. Teddy holds a BS and M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from Harvard University. He resides in Santa Barbara with his wife, Eileen, and their family. An avid long-distance runner, he has completed 25 marathons and qualified for the Boston Marathon three times. He also enjoys skiing, racing, and ski jumping for the Cornell Ski Team, as well as wing foiling and surfing.
