Saumya Sinha is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Minnesota. Prior to joining the university, she was a postdoctoral scholar at Rice University, working with Professor Andrew Schaefer in the areas of optimization and organ transplantation. She earned her Ph.D. in applied mathematics from the University of Washington, Seattle, where her research focused on robust dynamic optimization, theory, and applications, with a minor in advanced data science. Her educational background also includes master's degrees in applied mathematics from the University of Washington and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, as well as a bachelor's degree with honors in mathematics from St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi. Her research concentrates on problems of sequential decision-making and optimization under uncertainty, motivated primarily by applications in healthcare operations, health policy, and inventory control. She has contributed to the fields of optimization under uncertainty, Markov decision processes, robust optimization, and incentive design, with her work addressing healthcare operations and policy issues. Her scholarly work includes publications in reputable journals and recognition such as being a finalist for the INFORMS Undergraduate Operations Research Prize in 2020.
