Robert Wagman is a Professor of Classics at the University of Florida, where he has held various academic positions including Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, and Department Chair. He has also served as Associate Chair, Graduate Coordinator, and Undergraduate Coordinator within the Department of Classics, and is Co-Director of the Center for Greek Studies. His educational background includes a Doctor in Philosophy and a Master of Arts from The Johns Hopkins University, where he was recognized as a B.L. Gildersleeve Fellow and J.K. Javits Fellow. He also earned a Dottore in Lettere e Filosofia from the Università degli Studi di Pisa in Italy, and studied at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens as an E. Capps Fellow. Prior to his tenure at the University of Florida, he was a Lecturer at the University of Virginia. Professor Wagman is actively involved in professional service both within the university and the broader academic community. At the University of Florida, he has been a member of the University Senate, the Nominating Committee, the Language Committee, and the DSR Grant Committee, and has served as a minority mentor. Professionally, he is a member of the Managing Committee of the American School of Classical Studies and serves on the Advisory Council of the American Academy in Rome. He also acts as a tenure and promotion referee for colleges and universities and as a manuscript referee for academic presses and journals. His other professional affiliations include membership and fellowship in the American School of Classical Studies, the British School of Archaeology at Athens, and the Royal Geographical Society.
