Robert Paul Lamb is a Professor of English at Purdue University, with a research focus on American Literature from 1791 to 1955, Euro-American realism, naturalism, and modernism, the short story, race and ethnicity, Jewish American Literature, American Studies, and American social, cultural, and intellectual history from 1765 to 1974. His interests also include American political thought, popular culture, film studies, and sports culture. Lamb earned his Ph.D. in the History of American Civilization from Harvard University in 1988. He is the author of several books, including 'James G. Birney and the Road to Abolitionism,' 'Art Matters: Hemingway, Craft, and the Creation of the Modern Short Story,' and 'The Hemingway Short Story: A Study in Craft for Writers and Readers.' He has contributed numerous articles and book chapters on figures such as Herman Melville, Walt Whitman, Mark Twain, and others, covering topics like naturalism, literary theory, pedagogy, and film. Lamb co-edited 'A Companion to American Fiction, 1865-1914,' which features twenty-nine essays, and has been recognized for his contributions with awards such as the Choice 'Essential to all readers' rating and the LSU press's selection of 'Art Matters' as an Outstanding Academic Title.
