Pronghorn: Porous Media Thermal-Hydraulics for Reactor Applications
eScholarship (California Digital Library) · 2018-11-01 · 1 citations
articleOpen accessSenior authorPebble bed High Temperature Reactors (HTRs) are characterized by many advantageous design features, such as excellent passive heat removal in accidents and large margins to fuel failure. However, a significant challenge in thermal-hydraulic core modeling of pebble bed reactors is the double heterogeneity random packing of hundreds of thousands of fuel pebbles and thousands of fuel particles per pebble. A new porous media thermal-hydraulics code, Pronghorn, is under development to provide a fast-…
Weighted Delta-Tracking with Scattering
arXiv (Cornell University) · 2018-01-02 · 1 citations
articleOpen accessSenior authorIn this work, we expand the weighted delta-tracking routine to include a treatment for scattering. The weighted delta-tracking routine adds survival biasing to normal delta-tracking, improving overall problem figure of merit. In the original formulation of this method, only absorption events were considered. We have expanded the method to include scattering, enabling the assessment of three test cases: a pressurized water reactor pin cell, a fast reactor pin cell, and a homogeneous fuel element.…
