Peter Debaere

About

Peter Debaere is the Tipton R. Snavely Professor of Business Administration and Chair at UVA Darden School of Business. He is a faculty leader for the Executive MBA program and teaches the core course Global Economies and Markets (GEM), as well as electives such as 'Global Economics of Water' and 'Managing International Trade and Investment.' Debaere is an international economist specializing in international trade, multinationals, and trade policy, with a particular focus on water economics. His recent research investigates the economics of water, especially in a global context, exploring how water scarcity influences production and trade patterns, water use in the United States, and the functioning of water markets as tools to combat water scarcity. He leads the Global Water Initiative at UVA, which brings together scholars to conduct research, teach, and advise on water challenges. Debaere has held positions worldwide, including at the University of Texas, Austin, the International Monetary Fund, and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. His work has been published in top journals and discussed in textbooks and graduate courses. He is also involved in policy and environmental questions through his leadership in symposia and advisory roles.
