Paul J. Simko is the Frank M. Sands Sr. Associate Professor of Business Administration at UVA Darden School of Business. His academic expertise lies in financial accounting, capital markets, corporate financial reporting and disclosure, and enterprise risk management. Simko's research broadly centers on issues related to financial accounting information, with particular interest in the effects of alternative accounting treatments on investor and financial analyst decision-making, as well as how investors assess firms' earnings quality. His current research examines the incentives and consequences of earnings management, along with valuation issues related to earnings volatility and growth. Simko has received numerous national and university recognitions for his work. He teaches courses in accounting and financial statement analysis. Prior to joining Darden in 2002, he taught at Emory University, Indiana University, and INSEAD. He is a research fellow with the Enterprise Risk Management Initiative at North Carolina State University, has worked as a senior analyst with Citicorp, and is a certified public accountant.
