About

Welcome to the Interacting Robotic Systems Laboratory (IRSL). We are a part of the Design and Manufacturing group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook University. Our research interests are in studying and understanding the algorithmic foundations of interacting intelligent systems.

  • Influence of equivalence ratio on the statistics of the invariants of velocity gradient tensor and flow topologies in turbulent premixed lean H2-air flames

International Journal of Hydrogen Energy · 2024-12-06 · 3 citations

    articleOpen accessSenior author
  • A comparative analysis of plasma and hydrogen effects on premixed ammonia combustion

    Combustion and Flame · 2025-06-19 · 2 citations

    articleOpen access

In this study, we use direct numerical simulations to investigate turbulent premixed ammonia flames assisted by non-equilibrium nanosecond plasma discharges and hydrogen addition. The results reveal the coupling effects of turbulence, the hydrogen concentration in the fuel blend, and plasma discharges on the microscopic structure of the flame and chemical pathways. It is found that the flame front assisted by plasma is more distributed, whilst 58 % less stretched when compared to the hydrogen-en…

  • Effects of thermodynamic pressure on laminar spray flame propagation into monodisperse fuel droplet-mists

Applications in Energy and Combustion Science · 2025-08-09 · 1 citations

    articleOpen accessSenior author

The effects of droplet diameter, overall equivalence ratio (0.8–1.5), and primary evaporation zone length (2–10 mm) on the burning velocity and thermal flame thickness in laminar n-heptane monodisperse spray flames under varying pressures (1.0–2.0 bar) have been analysed using 1D numerical simulations. It is observed that for gaseous premixed flames, both flame speed and thickness decrease with increasing pressure. However, in spray flames, flame thickness increases while burning velocity decrea…

  • Unraveling Efficient Applications of Biochar for Biodynamic Farming

    2025-05-30 · 1 citations

    book-chapter

Biochar is the residue that is left over when plant biomass is pyrolyzed at low temperatures (around 350°C–600°C) in an environment with limited oxygen. A rising number of people are interested in using biochar as a sustainable solution to treat severely worn or damaged soils. It ensures a sustained increase in soil fertility and productivity. It can increase plant growth by enhancing the physical properties of the soil. Because of its extremely porous structure, which improves water retention a…

  • Provable Methods for Searching with an Imperfect Sensor

    2025-05-19 · 1 citations

    article

Assume that a target is known to be present at an unknown point among a finite set of locations in the plane. We search for it using a mobile robot that has imperfect sensing capabilities. It takes time for the robot to move between locations and search a location; we have a total time budget within which to conduct the search. We study the problem of computing a search path/strategy for the robot that maximizes the probability of detection of the target. Considering non-uniform travel times bet…
