Neil Brenner is the Lucy Flower Professor of Urban Sociology in the Department of Sociology and Chair of the Committee on Environment, Geography and Urbanization (CEGU) at the University of Chicago. He is a critical urban theorist, sociologist, and geographer whose research interests encompass all aspects of cities and urbanization within the social sciences, spatial humanities, design disciplines, and environmental studies. Brenner's work focuses on the theoretical, conceptual, and methodological dimensions of urban questions, particularly addressing the challenges of reinventing approaches to urbanization in relation to contemporary crises, contradictions, and struggles. Prior to his current position, he served as Professor of Urban Theory at Harvard Graduate School of Design and as Professor of Sociology and Metropolitan Studies at New York University.
