Michelle Everson

About

Michelle Everson is a Professor of Teaching Practice in the Department of Statistics at The Ohio State University. She joined the faculty in 2014 and teaches and coordinates STAT 1350 (Elementary Statistics). Her main area of interest is Statistics Education, focusing on how to improve teaching methods, create effective classroom environments, and address student difficulties in learning statistics. She is particularly interested in integrating active learning into statistics classrooms, both in traditional and online settings. Everson co-chaired a committee through the American Statistical Association (ASA) that updated the 2005 report 'Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education (GAISE),' emphasizing teaching statistical thinking, conceptual understanding, real data integration, active learning, technology use, and assessment. Her work centers on implementing these guidelines across different classroom types. She previously served on the faculty of the Statistics Education graduate program at the University of Minnesota from 2002 to 2014, where she received an Outstanding Teaching award in 2009 and the ASA Waller Education Award in 2011 for excellence in undergraduate teaching. From 2013 to 2015, she was the Editor of the Journal of Statistics Education.
