Michael Bailey, PhD, is a principal investigator in the Center for Microbe and Immunity Research at the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and an associate professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University. With nearly 20 years of experience, Dr. Bailey specializes in studying the bidirectional interactions between host physiology and the microbes residing within the gastrointestinal tract, known as the gut microbiota. His research was among the first to demonstrate that stressful situations can lead to changes in the composition of the gut microbiota. His current studies focus on how alterations in gut microbiota composition impact immune system functioning and nervous system activity.
