Maxwell Boykoff

About

Maxwell Boykoff is a Professor in the Department of Environmental Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder and a Fellow in the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences. He is the inaugural Faculty Executive Director of the Buckley Center for Sustainability Education. Max earned a PhD in Environmental Studies at the University of California Santa Cruz, an MBA from the University of Colorado Boulder, and a BS in Psychology from The Ohio State University. His research and creative work primarily focus on the cultural politics of science, climate change, and environmental issues, examining how attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors of individuals and groups influence and are influenced by science-policy and environmental actions. Additionally, he investigates transformations of carbon-based economies and societies, emphasizing decarbonization politics, policies, and decision-making, especially how these activities relate to everyday life and feed back into science-policy interactions. Max integrates these research interests with ongoing commitments to mentorship, teaching, and service. He has worked in several country contexts and is a co-author and editor of seven books and edited volumes, along with numerous articles, reports, and book chapters. Max also leads the Media and Climate Change Observatory (MeCCO) and co-Directs Inside the Greenhouse.
