Dr. Marsha Gordon is a professor in the Department of English and serves as the director of the Film Studies program at NC State. Since joining the faculty in 2002, she has taught a wide range of courses including 21st Century Documentary Filmmaking, Women and Film, Film History to 1940, 1950s American Film, Studio Era Hollywood, The Musical, and directors classes focused on filmmakers such as Nicholas Ray, Douglas Sirk, Sam Fuller, Alfred Hitchcock, and Billy Wilder. Her research and publications focus on film history, theory, and cultural analysis, with notable works including the book 'Becoming the Ex-Wife: The Unconventional Life & Forgotten Writings of Ursula Parrott' published in 2023, and co-authorship of the 5th edition of the textbook 'Film, Form, and Culture' (Routledge, 2024). She has also published and co-edited several other books on film and media, and her articles have appeared in prominent journals such as Film Quarterly, Cinema Journal, and The American Archivist. Additionally, Dr. Gordon co-directs short art-focused documentaries that have received awards and been featured at festivals across the United States, Canada, and Europe.
