About

Mark A. Borden is a professor in the Paul M. Rady Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Colorado Boulder. His research interests include colloid science, ultrasound, theranostics, and oxygen delivery. His laboratory investigates the science and engineering of microbubbles, nanodrops, and other colloidal suspensions for biomedical imaging and therapy. Current applications of his research include ultrasound molecular imaging, ultrasound image-guided drug delivery, and oxygen delivery. Borden's work also focuses on molecular-level details of interfacial transport phenomena related to engineered colloids. His laboratory develops medical technology aimed at aiding the diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), heart disease, and cancer. He has contributed to the commercialization of this technology by spinning out two companies, Respirogen Inc. and Advanced Microbubbles LLC, to translate his innovations into clinical settings. Borden has received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions, including the NSF Career Award and the Department Outstanding Research Award. He is actively involved in the scientific community through various committees and symposium memberships.
