About
Malgorzata Mazurek is an Associate Professor of Polish Studies at Columbia University, based in the Department of History and the Harriman Institute. She specializes in the modern history of Poland and East Central Europe, with research interests encompassing the history of social sciences, international development, social history of labor and consumption in twentieth-century Poland, and Polish-Jewish studies. Her scholarly work includes the publication of 'Society in Waiting Lines: On Experiences of Shortages in Postwar Poland,' which explores social inequalities under state socialism, and numerous articles on labor, consumption, and the history of human and social sciences in East Central Europe during the twentieth century. Her current book project, 'Economics of Hereness: The Polish Origins of Global Developmentalism 1918-1968,' revises the history of developmental thinking by highlighting East-Central Europe's role as a site of economic innovation and its influence on global development policies, particularly in the context of post-imperial Europe and the postcolonial world. Mazurek has been involved in international research projects, including 'Socialism Goes Global,' and has contributed to discussions on the history of social sciences, university decolonization, and Cold War internationalism. She holds a Ph.D. from Warsaw University obtained in 2008 and has been recognized with several awards and grants for her research, including the Lenfest Junior Faculty Development Grant and the Arts and Humanities Research Council Grant.
